About Superstition Skies Restaurant & Lounge
It has been written that Superstition Skies Restaurant and Bar stands as a “testament to the romantic history of Apache Junction”. Back when ladies of the evening, cowboys and movie stars were a common sight here. Established in the early 1950’s, it was a bordello for a few years, then a bar and restaurant with a swimming pool right where our dining room is today. (Yes, you are sitting on top of a filled-in swimming pool.)

Burnette Pletan, known as one of the world’s fastest painters, painted the dining room in one day with a house painting brush! It is scenes of the Superstitions, Four Peaks and the high country during the four seasons. Mr. Pletan was in “Ripley’s Believe It or Not” and “That’s Incredible”.   The painting on the four walls at Skies is one of his last big projects.

When Apacheland was filming movies like “Charro!” and productions like “Death Valley Days”, many of the movies’ stars ate at Superstition Skies. Ronald, Reagan, Kenny Rogers, Marty Robbins, and Elvis to name a few. It has been stated that Elvis came in every night for dinner and sat in his favorite booth in the corner. Just recently, we were honored with Larry the Cable Guy and his mother for dinner. You can find his signature behind the band stand. Over the years, many famous people have passed through these doors and the current owners of Skies work very hard to maintain this little patch of Apache Junction history, as did the former owner, Janet Sotomayor.

Superstition Skies is one of the last real “Honky Tonks” where it is not uncommon to see several horses tied up at the hitching rail and cowboys with chaps and spurs standing at the bar, with country music on the jukebox. We love this place!
